Bourton-on-the-Water

Bourton-on-the-Water is a classically beautiful English village, built entirely in the famous honey coloured Cotswold stone and was once famous for it’s wool trade. It is now a famous tourist spot with many local attractions to see such as Birdland, the Cotswold Perfumery, the Dragonfly Maze, Model Railway Exhibition, the Model Village, the Motor Museum (Vintage Car Museum) and the Pottery. The village itself has many interesting features and shops to explore. It also provides an ideal base from which several walks of varying distances can be undertaken including one which takes you round the Salmonsbury Reserve, designated a Site of Special Interest (SSI).

There are also many excellent restaurants and pub’s in Bourton serving lunchtime and evening food.

In short, there is plenty to occupy visitors of all ages at any time of year here in Bourton-on-the-Water, with so many local and neighbouring villages and attractions to see during your stay at Holly House. Under an hour's drive are the larger towns of Stratford upon Avon, birthplace of William Shakespeare, Cheltenham with it's excellent shopping facilities, and Oxford with it's famous University and architecture. Also well worth a visit is Worcester, famous for it's Cathedral, Evesham, a historic market town famous for it's produce and Pershore, a beautiful riverside town in between the two, famous for it's plums.

The Model Village

The model village is a one-ninth scale replica of Bourton-on-the-Water - built by an earlier inn owner and a small team of local craftsmen during the early thirties and opened on the Coronation day of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth in 1937.

Birdland

Birdland was first established in 1957 and was sited in the centre of Bourton.The current location was a trout farm and prior to that a Poplar Tree plantation There are still over 150 trees which create a high canopy for the River Windrush and enclosure.

Bourton Model Railway

Bourton Model Railway is among the best in the country. Five hundred square feet of miniature mountains, streams, factories, suburbs and over 40 British and European trains have been entertaining model railway fans here for over 25 years.

Cotswold Perfumery

This small family-run perfume factory has been creating bespoke fragrances for royalty and celebrities for over 40 years and is one of only three perfume manufacturers and retailers in Europe.
